This web tool provides a rapid environmental conditions summary for a user-defined area of interest (AOI) to support emergency response and situational awareness.
Users provide a shared run key and a set of latitude/longitude coordinates. The coordinates are used to construct a rectangular AOI envelope, and the tool queries multiple authoritative federal data sources to summarize current and forecast conditions affecting that area.
The tool currently reports:
Current and 24-hour forecast weather conditions from the NOAA National Weather Service, including temperature, humidity, wind, precipitation probability, and forecast conditions.
NWS forecast indications of smoke within the next 24 hours.
Current Air Quality Index (AQI) and available AQI forecast information from EPA AirNow. The configured search radius is reported with the results.
Recent satellite-derived smoke plume information from NOAA Hazard Mapping System (HMS), including plume density and the age of the most recent intersecting analysis.
Lightning activity during the previous 6 hours from the NOAA GOES-18 Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM), including data-coverage information.
A marine-layer indicator derived from NWS forecast variables.
The tool returns both a human-readable operational summary and a detailed JSON result containing source data, timestamps, AOI information, and source-health information.
