<horizpar>The boundary is based on 1:24,000 scale mapping. Using the "map resolution" concept outined by R.R. Wahl (USGS Open-File Report 99-386, p. 96: where (Map scale denominator) / 2/ 1000 = map scale, in meters), the estimated horizontal error is 12 m. A total RMS error of 18.34871 feet was calculated from georectification. These error levels reflect the accuracy of the conversion from hard copy to digital maps; however, the overall accuracy may differ if the uncertainty in the original map is included.</horizpar>

<procdesc>A map was scanned from the orignial paper map using a FSC 8010 COPY IDEAL color scanner. The scanned image was saved as an uncompressed TIFF image at a resolution of 300 dots per inch and this image was georeferenced based on the Monterey County roads centerline shapefile. A polygon, vector shapefile was heads-up digitized at 1:5,000 scale using the georeferenced image. </procdesc>
